Il linguaggio figurato di Dante : riflessioni teoriche e tipologie discorsive

Abstract

La prima parte della tesi si concentra sulla teoria del linguaggio figurato esposta da Dante in diversi passaggi delle sue opere (Vita Nova, De vulgari eloquentia, Convivio ed Epistola a Cangrande), che vengono analizzati nel dettaglio e riconnessi con le varie discipline che nel corso del Medioevo riflettevano sul tema: artes poetriae, artes dictaminis, esegesi, teologia, filosofia. La seconda parte consiste in una schedatura di tutte le metafore della Commedia di Dante, eseguita su categorie morfologico-sintattiche, strutturali e semantiche e organizzate in un database. La schedatura fornisce il materiale per una dettagliata analisi dell’apparato metaforico dantesco, condotta sotto diverse specole (linguistica, retorica, struttura) e tanto a livello complessivo quanto per singoli casi studio.

The dissertation is composed of two parts. In the first part I focus on Dante's theory of figurative language as it is expressed in several passages of his works (Vita Nova, De vulgari eloquentia, Convivio and the Epistle to Cangrande). Those latter are carefully scrutinised and contextualised by means of connecting them with the different disciplines that, during the Middle Ages, focused on the issue of figurative language, and namely the artes poetriae, artes dictaminis, biblical exegesis, theology and philosophy. In the second part all metaphors in Dante's Commedia are identified, classified and organised in a database according to morphologic, syntactic, structural and semantic categories. The data collected makes ground for a detailed description of Dante's metaphorical devices: the analysis, both overall and in the specific case studies, takes place at different levels and according to different methods of inquiry (linguistics, rhetoric and stylistics, structure).
